How To Download Camtasia, Youtube & Other Videos To Your Computer

March 13th, 2008

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. You can also grab your free Internet Marketing Quickstart guide by signing up for my FREE newsletter HERE. Thanks for visiting!

Today I want to share with you a quick and easy tip if you want to download and save Camtasia and other video types to your computer.  I am bringing you this tip today as I’ve noticed a range of products popping up offering this service, when there is perfectly decent free software available to do the same job.  As a reader of my blog I will try and bring you tips like this whever I can to save you money.

I  have been using a piece of software called Orbit Downloader to download videos from membership sites that I have joined, as well as from other sites such as YouTube and Google Video.  It is always a good idea to keep a library of useful content as you often find site owners move the content after the initial promotion, and you may lose access.  It is also handy to have such content available for quick reference, or perhaps to save onto a portable device for you to access whilst on the move.

The Orbit Downloader software is completely free and makes it super easy for you to download videos.  To download a video, first install the software.  Once that is done, the “Grabber” part of the software will run in the background on your system.  When you come to a page with a Camtasia or Flash video of any kind, you will see a small grey/white circle with an arrow in it on the edge of the video:

When you click this little icon, you will be prompted to refresh the page you are viewing so the software can grab the address of the video.  After you have done this, you will be asked where you want to save the video to, and away you go!

It’s as simple as that!

In no-time at all you can start building up your library of video content from membership sites you’re part of, or from videos you have found on YouTube and other video sites (hint: there’s loads of great free content on these sites if you search for it)

One final thing I wanted to point out, unfortunately this software is only available for Windows PCs at the moment.  Now I’m a Mac user as well as a PC user, and I use the Miro software which is also free to download videos on the Mac. Unfortunately, this is only really for YouTube videos and for organising your other video content, but it’s better than nothing!

I hope you’ve found these tips handy, and please leave me your comments or ideas if you have found any other good software for the Mac.

How To Manage Your Online Business From Anywhere In The World

February 27th, 2008

One of the things I love about Internet Marketing is the massive amount of flexibility it gives me in my life. I know I don’t always appreciate this, but when I talk to old school and university friends and hear them moaning about their boss at work, or their early mornings, I soon realise how lucky I am.

One of the benefits of this flexbility is that I have the freedom to work from anywhere I want, when I want. And with a little bit of help from a few online applications, I can even get away with not needing my laptop with me at all times (although it’s recommended if you really do want to sit on the beach sipping margaritas…).

If I don’t have my laptop, all I need to do is find an Internet cafe or Internet point and I can keep tabs on my business from anywhere in the world. To do this I use a few handy applications:

Google Mail (Gmail) - I now use Gmail to manage all of my email accounts, including those linked to my various websites.

It’s fairly simple to set this up, just click “Settings” in the top right of your screen once you’re in your Gmail account, Click the “accounts” tab and then click the “Add Mail Account” link in the section titled “Get mail from other accounts”. As long as your hosting provider supports POP3 you should be able to retrieve you email from up to 5 different accounts, as well as sending through these accounts, all while logged into Gmail.

I cheat a little with this process, as I use one email account on my hosting as a sort of dump email account which I forward all other email accounts through (you should be able to set this up within your hosting control panel). This allows me to retrieve the email from over 30 email accounts with minimum effort.

Using Gmail like this means whereever I am in the world I can always get access to my emails, without the need for outlook or my own computer.

DLGuard - DLGuard is a fantastic script/software which runs on my server to protect and manage all my downloads for my various digital products. From the DLGuard control panel I can monitor sales, conversions, and email secure download links to my clients. DLGuard also ensures all my products are automatically delivered to my customers instantly and I don’t have to do a thing! I can also adjust the prices of my products with minimum effort at the click of a button. It’s not the cheapest script, but it’s well worth the one-time payment and has saved me thousands of dollars in time which would have otherwise been spent delivering products and dealing with problems.

Google Docs - Google docs can be accessed through my Google Mail account, and this set of online applications allow me to write reports and ebooks whilst on the move without the need for a normal wordprocessor. All my work is stored securely in my Google account so when I get home I can continue working on anything with no fuss. I also use Google Docs to help manage any outsourcing clients as I can share documents and lists with outsourcing contacts to keep tabs on their progress.

Google Analytics - Another essential tool in every Internet Marketers aresenal should be Google Analytics which allows me to monitor all the stats for my websites. I can monitor where my visitors are coming from, how long they stayed on my site, and many other details which are useful in analysing and optimising my sites for more traffic and conversions.

AskJamesDyson Helpdesk - Having my own helpdesk site enables me to easily manage customer enquiries and problem, wherever I’m working from. I use the Trellis Desk script for my helpdesk and this gives me a range of features which are helpful in helping give my customers the best service possible. Using a helpdesk also allows me to cut down on spam problems which are associated with simply giving out an email address on my site.

Those are the main tools I use on a daily basis to manage my business, no matter wherever I find myself working from. If you are finding yourself restricted to one location or you’re worried about managing your IM business on the move, I hope this has given you some extra ideas on how to manage your business. And if you haven’t yet made the move to being your own boss - I hope this is something of a motivator to you.

Let me know what you think, and if you’re having any trouble with these apps give me a shout and I’ll get some videos up here to help you out.

A Lesson Learned…and Pre-Launch Crazyness

February 18th, 2008

I learned an important lesson yesterday - that I should practice what I preach more.  After speaking to a friend on Skype she kindly informed me that she wasn’t able to subscribe to my newsletter on this very blog.  I immediately paniced as I hadn’t checked into Aweber for a while to keep an eye on my stats or send out a new mail.  To my horror it appears the subscribe form has been broken for a while, and around 50 of you have tried to subscribe but recieved an error message.  It turns out the problem was caused by an error in the code, which I can only put down to Wordpress and its occasional tempramentalness (is that even a word?)

The lesson in all of this? I should listen to my own advice more.  I’m always telling people to ensure they test and monitor their optin forms, sales funnels and processes, and yet I hadn’t been doing that myself on this occasion - you can be sure I will be more often from now on.  Lesson learned!

On a brighter note, and probably part of the reason I hadn’t clocked the optin problem before now, is the upcoming launch of my Resale Rights Ultimatum Training Course.  The course is the result of 6 months of experimentation and testing, and is my own unique formula for profiting from Resale Rights and Private Label Rights materials.  I’ve been using private label rights products to profit in many niches away from the Internet Marketing niche, and have developed my own formula as a result.

I will be launching a special offer for the training course later this week, but subscribers to my newsletter will get exclusive early bird access, where the course will be available at an amazing price.  I will only be allowing a certain number of people to access the system at the special offer price, so if you want to ensure you can grab your copy I recommend you signup today so you don’t miss out.

I’ll be releasing more details about the course over the week, so look out for those throughout the week.

How To Drive Traffic To Your Blog (Free Mind Map)

February 9th, 2008

I was going to post a list of methods I use to drive traffic to my blog today, but I figured I’d go that little bit further for my readers and create a beautiful looking mind map showing all my favourite methods of generating traffic to my blog.

You can download the mind map by clicking here.  You will need Adobe Acrobat reader to view the file.  I’ve tried to annotate the map where possible to give a bit more information on the different methods and how I’ve used them most effectively.  This is by no means a complete list, there are many other methods, but these are the ones I’ve been using most recently.

I’d love to hear your ideas and strategies on how you generate traffic to your blog, so please post your comments below!

Are You Using Twitter Yet?

February 1st, 2008

I’ve just recently started experimenting with a relatively new social networking site called Twitter. It’s a unique website where you can post or “twitter” about anything you’re currently doing, a bit like instant messaging to the world, via short 140 character messages. As you post your messages, others can “follow” you, and keep updated with what you’re posting about. You can also follow your friends and other people on Twitter and keep up to date with what they’re discussing.

I’m starting to see the potential of this site as a marketing tool as well, as you can post links to external websites which will instantly be visible to those who are following you, as well as visible on the public timeline section of the site which shows a log of all conversations on Twitter. The social nature of the site means your links are probably more likely to be clicked by those following you, which could result in valuable traffic to your websites.

Along the same lines, I thought it would be handy if you could search through Twitter conversations to find particular discussions on a topic you may be interested in, or more importantly may be interested in marketing information to. A quick search on Google revealed the Terraminds Twitter search - http://terraminds.com/twitter/.

I’m still discovering this site and additional features all the time, but I’m sure there’s some amazing potential for marketing your websites and products here. If you’re using Twitter, i’d love to hear from you. You can also follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/jamesdyson
