More Great Content & My New Product Launch

January 22nd, 2008

I’ve been working flat out over the past few weeks on a few new and exciting projects which you will start to see news of on this blog later this week. The first project is a brand new ebook called Internet Marketing Quickstart, which I’ve written aimed at those of you who are new to the Internet Marketing field, or who haven’t had much success so far in IM. I’m planning on giving this away exclusively to my subscribers, so join today to ensure you are sent the guide as soon as it’s ready.

The other main project I’ve been working on is my brand new training course, Resale Rights Ultimatum. This is going to be my first major product launched in the Internet Marketing field, and I’m really excited about it. I’ve put a lot of time into ensuring this training course offers exceptional value and I’ve included loads of amazing strategies that I’ve been using to profit from Resale Rights and PLR content for the last 6 or 7 months. I’m basically showing you my complete system, step-by-step, and I’ve held nothing back.  I’m putting the final touches to this package now and I’m planning on launching in early February.

Keep a look out for more information on these products and other great content here on the James-Dyson.com blog in the weeks to come.

Global Google Results - Are You Checking Your Sites And Ads?

January 21st, 2008

I have recently been testing out a really cool Firefox plugin which I think many of you will find extremely useful. You may or may not be aware that Google search results vary depending on where in the World you are searching from. As well as localised AdWords ads being shown alongside your searches, there is often a difference in the natural search listings depending on where you have searched from.

As a marketer, it’s important for me to be able to easily monitor where my sites are appearing in the search results, and the positioning of my AdWords ads so I can monitor the effectiveness of my SEO strategies and adjust PPC bids accordingly. I can also use this information to identify competitors in different countries and also uncover potentially untapped niches in particular countries. As well as this, I can spot localised differences in AdWords copy which will allow me to adjust my campaigns to be more effective in their particular countries.

There is now an excellent tool which makes monitoring your sites and ads really easy, and you can view the search results from a range of countries, and with a bit of customisation you can even narrow the search results down to particular cities and regions in the USA. To use the tool you will need to be using the Firefox web browser as it takes the format of a plugin. Once you have Firefox, download the The Google Global Firefox Extension to get started.

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to use the plugin:

1. Firstly click the “Install Now” button on download page to start the installation. This will bring up a notice asking you to accept the plugin. Once the plugin has installed, click Restart Firefox to complete the installation.

2. The next step is to go to Google.co.uk (or your local Google search site) to test out the plugin. For this example, I am going imagine I am marketing the box set for one of my favourite TV Shows, 24 - so I will enter “24 Season 6 box set”, and then click search:

3. The standard results page will be displayed, with AdWords ads at the top and down the right side, and the natural listings below. As I searched on Google.co.uk, and I’m located in the UK, I will first see the results for UK websites and ads.

4. In order for the magic to happen, you now need to right-click Search button and you will be presented with a contextual menu which will allow you to select your required country to search.

5. Once you select your chosen country, a new tab will open in Firefox with the new search results displayed. Having the new results in a second tab also makes it very easy to compare the two countries and spot any differences in campaigns or site positions.

I should also point out that there is an option to add an icon to your toolbar which might be more handy for you if you don’t want to right-click the search button .

Above are the Google USA results for comparison.  As you can see there are now different AdWords ads showing and the links in the main search results have also changed.

I hope you find this plugin as useful as I do, just remember whenever you are doing promotions with AdWords it’s always good to check your placement around the World, especially with digital products. I’m sure you will find lots of ways of using this to increase the profitability of your existing campaigns and researching new ones.

Niche Link Hunting - An Easy Way To Boost Search Engine Rankings

January 17th, 2008

Whatever niche you are working in, if you want your website to rank well in the search engines the undeniable fact is you will need to build links. I know many people (myself included) don’t particularly enjoy this process, but there are a few ways you can easily build high quality links to your site with a little effort.

One of these methods is by using the search engines to locate other websites where I can position my link in order to drive up my rankings across all the major search engines. All you have to do is enter some of your niche keywords into the search engines and analyse the results.

What I’m looking for are any kind of websites which allow user interaction and contribution, which will allow me to easily add a link back to my website. These websites would include:

  • Blogs - Add a comment to the blog post and include your link (obviously ensure your contribution is valuable and never spam)
  • Wiki’s - Wikis are based on user contribution, so you if you can make a sensible contribution and include your link in the credit this is a good way to build links
  • Question and Answer Posts - Sites like Yahoo Answers and Google Answers often rank well in search engines and can be a great way for you to get your links noticed. Add a sensible contribution to the post and add your link here too.
  • Forums -Forum posts sometimes rank well for search terms. If you find a forum post listed, join the relevant forum and add a response to the post thread. I would recommend adding your link in a signature rather than in the actual post unless the forum allows this - for more information on forum promotion see my post - The Power of Forum Marketing

Using these techniques to get your links out there whenever you can should have a noticable effect on your search engine rankings within a few days or weeks, and should also gradually increase your traffic. Whilst using this method it’s also worth monitoring if any web 2.0 sites are showing up regularly such as Squidoo or HubPages, and consider setting up your own page on one of these sites to make use of their search engine friendliness - I recommend setting up pages on these sites anyway as part of a main promotion strategy - more on this soon.

Some of you may be aware that the effectiveness of this strategy can be affected by the use of “nofollow” tags on many websites and blogs, which effectively stop search engines from transferring any of the credibility of these sites onto you. This is something which is often debated and in my experience even links from nofollow sites can still have an effect on your site rankings - however there is a way you can ensure you only get links from sites which will allow the search engine to follow the links when indexing other sites if you are worried about this…

By using the SearchStatus Firefox plugin you can have any nofollow links automatically highlighted, enabling you to quickly analyse any blogs or sites which you may not want to use.

Whichever way you decide to use this Search Engine Optimisation strategy, it should work as part of a solid site promotion strategy to start building the popularity of your site in the search engine, as it is focusing specifically on sites within your niche, which Google and other search engines value more highly than random links from unrelated sites. Try it today and please post back your results here, I’d love to hear them

Digital Delivery For eBay Sellers

January 10th, 2008

When I started out selling on eBay (over 3 years ago now) I didn’t have a clue about where to start with digital product delivery. When I started selling digital products, I knew I needed to automate my sales and delivery process in order to give me time to manage other activities, and to ensure my customers recieved good service. Originally, I would use a series of rules in my email client to manage the delivery of my product - When an email from Paypal arrived confirming a sale my email client (Outlook) would automatically respond with an email giving the download details for my product.

This method was unreliable, and impersonal as each customer would receieve the same email. It also meant my computer had to be switched on in order to deliver my products - not an idea situation. There was also the issue of anyone who sent a fake paypal email would also receive the product - for free. I would definately not recommend anyone to use this method, however after doing some research on eBay today I have noticed there are tonnes of people still not offering automatic delivery for their product - which is an obvious benefit and great selling point. The Internet is all about instant gratification - everyone wants things here and now - no-one wants to wait. If you can’t offer your prospects instant gratification they will more than likely go elsewhere.

So what are the options for you if you want to deliver your digital product to your customers quickly and easily? Well I have experimented with a range of options, but the two I will discuss here are E-Junkie and DLGuard. I’m afraid to say neither of these options are free, but you need to think of this as an investment in your business, and you should be able to make your money back fairly quickly if you are selling regularly on eBay.

E-Junkie - This is a subscription based service, with a range of packages depending on the number of different products you want to sell. They have packages starting from $5 a month up to $125 a month for their most expensive package. For $5 a month you get get started straight away selling on eBay, and can sell 10 different products with a total size of 50mb. This should satisfy most ebook sellers to start with. E-Junkie don’t limit the number of sales you make, so you don’t have to worry if you sell a lot of the same product.

I would recommend this package for beginners as you can easily get started and the $5 fee shouldn’t be too hard for you to make back. This option is also good for beginners as you can upload your files to the E-Junkie server, meaning you don’t need your own hosting. If you’re struggling to sell products on eBay I will be writing more on this topic in the coming months so look out for more tips on this soon.

DLGuard - This is a one-off script based solution which runs from your own server. It is more expensive than E-Junkie, at $127 for a dual-install licence, but does offer far more flexibility and options when selling digital products. You can sell as many products as you want, as well as offering secure shopping carts and membership areas on your own sites once you start developing your online business.

Selling on eBay through DLGuard will of course require you to have your own hosting, but once this is setup it’s fairly easy to setup the auto-sending of your digital products through eBay.

Depending on your requirements these are two options worth considering when selling digital products online. You will need a Paypal account in order to use these options with Paypal, but I’m sure if you’re already selling on eBay then you have one of these. I hope this has helped some of you who may be manually delivering products or using other options which may not be working well for you.
