Today I want to talk to you about a different kind of learning. I’m not talking about learning from ebooks, videos or any other content, but instead perhaps a more subtle area of learning that comes from observation. Sound criptic? It’s really not…keep reading and I’ll explain what i mean…
Whenever I buy a product, service, recieve an email, join a mailing list, almost anything I do online which involves interacting with online systems setup by other people, I’m always learning by observing. What i mean by this is, I’m always looking at how they handle the customer interaction, how their sales funnel works, and looking for things that I think work well, which I can take forward into my business.
Let me give you an example. Let’s say I join a mailing list of a certain marketer, firstly, I consider what made me join that list…was it an appealing offer, or was there some clever marketing at work - if there was, I might make a note of it and see how I could apply it to my business (you could integrate the new system on a split test basis to see which works more effectively - I’ll talk about testing in depth soon).
Next, I’ll look at the process of signing up, are there any offers as part of the process, or am I taken to a blank page with no navigation links - this might make me aware of a possible negative issue - and I would go ahead and check my autoresponders were taking customers to a customised page after they signed up. Once I’m on the marketers list, I’ll be looking at how they market things to me, and in particular, if something catches my eye, I’ll make a note of it. If it’s an email subject line, I’ll add it to my “subject line” swipe file (more on these soon too), so I can perhaps adapt it to my own marketing or list broadcasts in future. I’m not talking about stealing their subject line verbatim, I’m talking about learning from it, look at the marketing behind it, and make the most of these strategies within your business.
I hope this has given you some more ideas and something to think about when you’re going about your usual daily online business, remember there are opportunities to learn wherever you go online, just keep your eyes open!
